Intense heat expected in Mexico City

During the last weeks of winter, the heat in Mexico City is already approaching spring maximum temperatures. This Sunday, March 9, it is expected that the thermometer will reach 30 degrees, making it one of the hottest weekends so far this year. The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection reported that at least 15 neighborhoods reached 29 degrees this Saturday, March 8. This day commemorated International Women's Day and tens of thousands of women took to the streets during the hottest hours.

The Meteorological Service of the National Water Commission (Conagua) predicts that Mexico City will reach 30 degrees. Additionally, the attendance of tens of thousands of people at the Zócalo of Mexico City is expected to listen to Claudia Sheinbaum's message regarding Donald Trump's tariffs and his pause until April 2.

In light of high temperatures, solar radiation may be high, so Civil Protection recommends staying hydrated and using sunscreen. According to the weather forecast, it is expected that at 21:00 hours on this Sunday, the heat in Mexico City will reach 21 degrees, higher than in previous weeks. For the early morning, minimum temperatures will be as low as 11 degrees by 6:00 AM on Monday, March 10.

The National Meteorological Service explained that Mexico City and the State of Mexico are facing an anticyclonic circulation at mid-atmospheric levels, which will create a very hot environment during the afternoons and nights. Therefore, it is possible that Mexico City will reach 30 degrees, while in the State of Mexico, maximum temperatures of 28 degrees are expected this Sunday.

As the heat intensifies in Mexico City, some neighborhoods and places where the highest temperatures have been recorded in recent days include the National Preparatory School UNAM 1 in Xochimilco at 29.8 degrees, Legaría in Miguel Hidalgo at 29.6 degrees, and Molino del Rey in Miguel Hidalgo at 29.5 degrees, among others. It is possible that temperatures this Sunday will be even higher in Mexico City, according to predictions from the National Meteorological Service of Conagua.
